Drainage on a slope, not just a flat yard
Standard turf-base advice assumes water moves straight down through a compacted base and drainage layer. On a sloping Carindale block near the Bulimba Creek catchment, water also moves sideways across the surface, which means the base has to be shaped to direct that flow deliberately rather than just built flat and hoped for the best. Get this wrong and the failure point is predictable: erosion and undermining at the lowest edge of the turf, usually where it meets a retaining wall or garden bed, within a wet season or two.
Pool-surround turf
Larger Carindale blocks with a pool need turf and a base that can tolerate regular chlorine splash-out and occasional backwash discharge without the ground underneath turning to mush.
